πŸšͺ Entry & exit line tracking

Use entry and exit lines to measure people through doorways. Lines complement whole-frame counts and zones for a complete picture.

What line tracking does

  • Draw a directional line across a doorway in the camera view.

  • When movement crosses the line, we record an Entry or Exit event based on direction.

  • Use multiple lines if you have multiple doors. Totals aggregate across configured lines.

When to use lines vs zones

  • Lines: count ingress and egress through doors.

  • Zones: analyse activity within specific areas of the store.

  • You can use both for a store: lines for door counts and zones for dwell and flow inside.

Add an entry or exit line

  1. Open Cameras β†’ [Camera] β†’ Draw.

  2. Select Add line.

  3. Click two points on the doorway to place the line.

  4. Choose the direction so the system can classify Entry vs Exit.

  5. Save.

Tip: Place the line fully inside the doorway and perpendicular to the walking path for reliable direction detection.

Manage multiple doors

  • Create a separate line for each entrance or exit.

  • Name lines clearly, for example Front Door, Side Door, Staff Door.

  • If you do not want a door counted, do not add a line for it.

What you will see

  • Entry and Exit counts for the selected time range.

  • People now continues to show live people under the camera view.

  • Total People is the total count within your date filter. Counts are session based, not unique individuals.

Accuracy and limitations

  • Typical accuracy is 85 to 90% in normal conditions. Results vary by environment.

  • Accuracy can reduce with crowding, occlusion, extreme lighting, or mirrors and reflective surfaces.

  • For GDPR reasons we do not track identities. Re-entries are counted as new sessions.

  • Enterprise option: staff identification can be enabled on request.

Offline behaviour

  • If a camera goes offline, counts are not buffered or backfilled. Enterprise backfill can be added if required.

Best placement and setup

  • Mount cameras high and angled slightly down to reduce occlusion.

  • Avoid backlighting and strong reflections near doors.

  • Keep lines short and tight across the actual threshold.

  • Test by walking in and out to confirm entries and exits increment as expected.

Edit or remove a line

  • Open the camera, select the line, adjust its endpoints, then Save.

  • To remove, select the line and choose Delete.

Permissions

  • Admins and Managers can add, edit, and delete lines.

  • Viewers are read only.

Troubleshooting

  • Counts look low: move the line deeper into the doorway or make it perpendicular to the walking path.

  • Counts look high: check for reflections or people pacing on the threshold. Nudge the line inward.

  • No data: new cameras show no data until movement is recorded. Confirm the camera view covers the doorway.
